Ledaig 18 years

Distilled at the Tobermory Distillery, Isle of Mull, Scotland. This distillery was founded in 1798, originally called Ledaig. It is now owned by Burn Stewart Distillers. Their main product is sold under the Tobermory label, and used in blends, but they produce a small amount of peated whisky sold under the old name, Ledaig,

Non-chill filtered. 46.3% ABV.

Ledaig 18 Isle of Mull

This is a single malt Scotch whisky. What exactly does that mean?  It is Scotch whisky distilled (i) at a single distillery (ii) from water and malted barley without the addition of any other cereals, and (iii) by batch distillation in pot stills.

What they say “[This] represents the rebirth of the style of malt whisky that would have originally been produced at the distillery. This sought after peated Hebridean style Single Malt Scotch Whisky balances rich and fruity, sherried smokiness with seaweed and light creosote”

Our review: The nose is smoky, peaty, but not a peat monster. And yes, a faint hint of the (in)famous Band-Aids scent, which isn’t quite my bag, but others seem to enjoy it. There is a sweet, bright and spicy undertone.

Palate: All burn up front, but I sense flavor as it coats the rear palate. With more sips the flavors begin to come through the smoky plumes, and with an ice cube more flavor finally comes out. A touch of sherry. Welp, this is certainly better than Johnny Walker Red or Black 🙂
