Ezra Brooks Straight Rye Whiskey

Today we’re looking at Ezra Brooks Straight Rye Whiskey. Despite the fact that the label says Ezra Brooks (whose bourbon is from the Heaven Hill Distillery) this product has been sourced from MGP of Indiana, where it was distilled and aged. Thus this is a NDP (non-distiller produced) whiskey.

The mashbill is mostly rye, although likely only 51%, with the rest made of corn and some malted barley.

This has been aged for at least 2 years in newly charred oak barrels.

45% abv/90 proof

Nose – faint rye spice, pleasant wood background, quite nice!

Palate – Has a soft rye spice, some sweetness, a bit of mint and pepper, maybe a touch of menthol. This has a thin mouthfeel.

Nothing about this feels like something worth drinking straight, but it would work okay in a rye whiskey based cocktail.
