Wathen’s Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

By RK

It’s been out for a while and I finally got the chance to try Wathen’s Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. 47% abv/94 proof

Who makes it? The front says “Charles Medley Distillery” but there is no such distillery. The name was created by a New York company, Skurnik Wines & Spirits.

No age statement, at least 4 years old. For earlier releases the company stated that they were selected from barrels between six to nine years old, but no information is available, as far as I know, for releases in recent years.

Mash bill. Distiller reports that the mash bill is 77% corn, 10% rye and 13% malt.

On the back it says that it is bottled by Charles Medley Distillery, in Fairfield, CA. This is really a NDP (non-distiller produced) bourbon distilled in Kentucky.

Available for $35 to $40

This bourbon has a moderate mouth feel, substantial enough to make it a decent experience. Pleasantly dry, there is a hint of caramel, something sweet like honey, and the right amount of oak. This is decent, easily available, and an affordable bourbon experience.
